Curatorial advisor, South Caucasus and Europe – Young Perspectives | 2008—2009

on the move

In this part of the project ›South Caucasus—A Part of Europe‹, youth from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Austria did research on topics they were interested in, which took on the form of experimental works in text, sound, video and photography. The results from the workshop and the international youth's views on everyday life, (in)direct routes and imaginary spaces for the future were presented in the form of an archive installation at Vienna's main public library.

The German title of the project ›unterwegs‹ can be translated in a variety of different ways. It is used in various contexts that have a lot in common with the project and the works of the youth participating in the project. They were all ›on the move‹ as they set out to do the research with their notebooks and camera. Like a road movie, their photo projects offer insight into the streets, city life and everyday lives of Baku, Batumi, Jerewan, Tbilisi and Wien. Being ›out and about‹ (unterwegs) is also a description of the places they spend some of their evenings, or where they go walking with friends. These impressions of ›going out‹ are shown in the ways they deal with club culture and relationships. And, not lastly, the young people deal with the history and society of regions where transitions are underway and dream about future societies.
