Workshops WIENWOCHE 2012
Where, if not here...
The starting point for this project lies in questioning the existing relations in terms of space and public spheres. How are these structured and regulated? Who decides on the conventions and orders? Which spaces of agency face which demands for emancipation? In collaboration with artists ..., for three days during WienWoche, there were workshops in which everyday common spaces of youth, such as school workshops and training classrooms, were appropriated and temporarily occupied. The participants' experiences and interests formed the basis for the research on spatial orders, on the effects of in- and exclusion and their intersections with the fields of labor and education.
The workshops were not only about familiar spaces or common places in which everyday life is ›regulated,‹ they also included discussions about the definition of the public sphere, and about the extent that it determines our actions in public places, as well as the possibilities for interventions in public spaces. The collaborative process consisted of experimenting with artistic strategies to design cartographies as well as the demands and statements formulated in the workshops, and producing ›give-aways‹ that would continue to spread the youths' concerns throughout the city, even after WIENWOCHE 2012.
The project was conducted in collaboration with the artists Vasilena Gankovska and Sandra Kosel
